The Internal Tax Regime Law, reformed by the Organic Law for Economic Development and Fiscal Sustainability after the COVID-19 Pandemic, authorizes the President of the Republic to cut rates of Excise Tax (“ICE” in the Spanish acronym).
On June 06, 2024, by official letter No. MDN-MDN-2024-1259-OF, the Ministry of Defense recommended cutting the rate of Excise Tax for firearms and ammunition to discourage smuggling and illegal purchases.
On June 12, 2024, by Executive Decree No. 302, President Daniel Noboa ordered the rate of Excise Tax for firearms, sports guns and ammunition to be reduced from 300% to 30% as of July 01, 2024.
