Regarding her dispute resolution practice, Adriana has participated on high-profile international and domestic arbitration, complex commercial litigation, tort litigation and administrative law disputes. Adriana has represented clients in a variety of industries such as oil and gas, construction, energy, and mining.
In the Banking and Finance team, Adriana has participated in cross-border and domestic project development and financings, advising national and international creditors, financers, and debtors in complex financial and banking operations, often with fiduciary, capital market, insurance, and regulatory components.
Adriana was also an International Associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP, where she was part of the Project Development and Finance team. She obtained her LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School and is admitted to the New York Bar.
Her representative experience in Litigation includes: (i) being part of the team that successfully represented Claimant, as local counsel, in an UNCITRAL arbitration administered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration against the Ecuadorian government, where the Arbitral Tribunal ordered the State to pay a nine-figure compensation; (ii) being part of the team that successfully represented a Chinese investor in two arbitration proceedings against the Ecuadorian government over a dispute regarding the construction of one of the biggest hydroelectric projects in Ecuador; (iii) being part of the team that successfully represented a subsidiary of a Chinese company listed in the Fortune Global 500, focused on global civil engineering and construction projects, in an arbitration process against an Ecuadorian company; (iv) being part of the team that represented a Spanish investor in five cases before the Ecuadorian Administrative Tribunal against the Ecuadorian government over the refurbishment of Ecuador’s largest refinery in the Province of Esmeraldas and another one in Santa Elena.
Relevant transactions where Adriana has participated as part of PBP are: (i) representing Dubai port operator DP World to help win a USD 1.2 billion contract to build and operate a deep-water port in Posorja, Ecuador, and drafting the contract under the Public Private Partnership legislation, (ii) representing the lenders for the development of a USD 1 billion desalination plant to supply several mines in Chile (while working for Shearman & Sterling); (iii) representing the biggest Ecuadorian bank to issue nine figures in Social Gender Bonds which were acquired by the Inter-American Investment Corporation and the International Finance Corporation. This transaction is not only attracting capital to the biggest bank of Ecuador but this will also promote the development of women-owned or women-led businesses.
