Edgar is a member of the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Public Law practice areas.
In the field of dispute resolution, Edgar is known for his expertise in complex disputes in civil, commercial, arbitration (domestic and international) and private international law matters and administrative litigation. He advises and defends clients in all stages of proceedings, including representing clients at the National Court of Justice (petitions for cassation). He also actively participates in negotiations and mediation between private parties.
In the field of public law, Edgar advises clients on their dealings with various State establishments and institutions. This includes advice on administrative law, public procurement and administrative penalty procedures. He also actively participates in the defense of clients in investigations by the office of the Comptroller General. Edgar is also notable for his involvement in negotiations and mediations with public sector institutions.
Edgar is recognized for his deep knowledge and experience of all aspects of the Ecuadorian procedural system. His expertise is particularly appreciated in procures for the determination of civil liability in the following areas: (i) private contractual and extra-contractual, (ii) state contractual and extra-contractual, and (iii) administrative liability. He also has extensive experience in advising clients on various areas of the economy such as agribusiness; consumer and retail; education; energy, oil and gas; pharmaceuticals and health services; industry, and financial institutions.
Edgar is regularly invited to be a panelist or speaker at various forums on dispute resolution, arbitration and public law. He is a professor of commercial/civil law, procedural law and arbitration at several universities, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Furthermore, he is an independent arbitrator and on the list of arbitrators of the Arbitration Centers of the Quito Chamber of Commerce, Universidad San Francisco de Quito and Fedexpor.
