Margarita co-leads PBP’s Intellectual Property practice. With an extensive and diverse background of over 30 years, she has consolidated her expertise in trademarks, patents, and copyrights. Her leadership has extended to the main international IP associations.

Margarita co-leads our Intellectual Property practice at Pérez Bustamante & Ponce.        With more than 30 years of professional practice, Margarita has consolidated her experience in the management of trademark portfolios for local and international clients in Ecuador. Her practice covers all aspects of trademarks. This includes advising on regulatory issues related to food and drug technical standards, consumer protection, advertising law, franchise agreements, and other agreements related to IP commercialization. She also advises on patents, utility models and industrial designs, negotiation of trademarks and contracts related to intellectual property.

Margarita also stands out for her commitment to diversity and social aid. She has actively taken part in pro bono initiatives as an advisor to Fundación Reina de Quito, an institution that supports children with Down’s syndrome. She has also been involved in social campaigns like the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association’s blood donation and shoe donation campaigns, which demonstrates her dedication to humanitarian causes.  

Margarita has held important roles at the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association (ASIPI) and at the International Trademark Association (INTA) where she has contributed as Co-Chair of the Latin America & Caribbean Global Advisory Council and as a member of various committees. Her participation at these organizations not only reinforces her international profile, but also means she is at the forefront of trends and developments in the field of intellectual property.
